Touching the Community
Our vision and mission is to connect in this community so that we can add grace and blessing to those who live near us. We are our own kind of community where we give encouragement to one another. We learn from this encouragement to also share with our neighbors. We stand up for the dignity of all human beings, rich or poor, young or old, able-bodied or challenged. We are trying to live out our spoken convictions by convincing acts of kindness and care.
The community also touches us as they participate in the fundraisers that help our service and ministry. They use our building for public meetings that work for the benefit of all people. Several businesses have provided gifts and prizes for our special event. The neighborhood of New Town has set one of is wonderful playgrounds next to the church so children have a happy and safe place to play.
Here are a few of the ways we touch our community:
Duck Race
With excitement and humor, we host the annual "Duck Race" at the Shire Lane Pool on the first day it opens for summer swimming. As the rubber ducks race across the finish line, they win prizes for the person who has purchased a sponsorship of that particular duck.
New Town 4th of July Parade & Carnival
Each Fourth of July, many of our members are presented in the Independence Day Parade; and then we host a carnival for the whole cummunity on the lawn of our church building.
Vacation Bible School
The theme this year was "Pass the Power", and we studied the Parables of Jesus.
